The 3rd Annual Barber Historics showcases historically significant racecars of all marques from the early days of the sport through the 1980s. The ticketed event, with vintage auto racing sanctioned by the Historic Motor Sports Association (HMSA) and hosted in association with ZOOM Motorsports, is open to the public and takes place at Barber Motorsports Park in Birmingham, Alabama, on May 19-21, 2017. Tickets can be purchased online at www.barberracingevents.com starting at only $10.
At Barber Historics, some of the world’s finest and most impressive historic racecars compete on the track in a variety of classes based on engine type, car size, and age. This is a rare and special opportunity to see and hear cars that shaped the history of racing, ranging from classic Minis and MGs, to the best from Lotus and Porsche.
“Barber Motorsports Park with its beautiful grounds, museum and track make the perfect stage on which to enjoy the performance of historic racing cars. The event will truly bring the history of motorsports, with all its sights, smells, and spectacular noises, to life in a weekend long celebration of the sport,” said Cris Vandagriff, President of HMSA.
In addition to vintage auto racing, park guests can shop for automobilia and rare car and motorcycle parts at the Barber Historics Swap Meet. An art
event takes place in the swap meet area as well, highlighting the works of local artisans and makers.
“Barber Historics presents an opportunity for people to visit a remarkable motorsports destination in Alabama and to see hundreds of unique, vintage automobiles over the course of a three-day weekend. The park will be filled with attractions for the motoring community, along with the newly- expanded Barber Vintage Motorsports Museum and plenty of family- friendly fun,” said Jeff Ray, Executive Director of the Barber Museum.
On Saturday guests at Barber Historics can take in car shows in the Fan Zone, to include specialty makes as well as Lotus and Mustang. The Kansas City Barbeque Society will host the 3rd Annual Barber-Que Competition and offer BBQ samplings to the public.
Guests can personally experience thrills first-hand on Saturday, when Porsche Sport Driving School instructors will be offering rides in the new Porsche Carrera, Boxter, or Cayman on the Barber Proving Grounds. Donations to a select charity are requested. On Sunday, the Barber Proving Grounds will host an open autocross day where guests can drive their own vehicles on the proving grounds for a fee of $10 per lap.
Coinciding with this year’s Barber Historics is the 37th annual Lotus Owners Gathering (LOG 37). The LOG 37 Concours takes place on Saturday, presenting guests a unique chance to see special Lotus. In addition to the concours, guests of the Barber Museum can view the museum’s collection of more than 50 vintage Lotus.
