Tour "Moonshine Run"
on Friday, October 22nd:
The
success and enjoyment of the first annual Moonshine Run has encouraged
us to offer this event again this year with a different route
and new sites to see. Moonshine Run participants will gather at
the City Municipal Complex with check-in from 9:00 am until 9:45
am. The tour will depart Dawsonville at 10:00 am. Our route will
take us through the heart of Northeast Georgia moonshine country
with our first stop being at Vogel State Park in Blairsville,
GA. The State Park is a beautiful setting for the moonshine era
cars and visitors. We will also be able to enjoy a tour of the
CCC Boys Museum and visit with J.M. Burt, author of “God-Fearing
Criminals”. You can tap your toes to country music while you enjoy
a delicious barbeque lunch with all the trimmings. The tour will
continue along more scenic mountain roads as we travel a little
further north then make our way back to Dawsonville, GA by mid-afternoon
just in time to attend the Moonshine Festival Cruise-In activities
and the Georgia Racing Hall of Fame Banquet.
Cars of 1958 vintage and older recommended.
-Resto-rods are welcome.
-Vehicles must be capable of maintaining a cruising speed of at
least 45-50 mph. Much of the tour is over steep mountain grades
so a good cooling system and good brakes are required.
-Cost of Moonshine Run Tour is $45 per car; $10 each additional
rider. Lunch is included.
-Registration Deadline is Sept. 1, 2010. No refunds will be issued
after Oct. 1, 2010.
-Complete the REGISTRATION FORM below and mail to KARE for Kids,
Inc., Moonshine Run, P.O.Box 211, Dawsonville, GA 30534.

The
Moonshine Festival explores Dawson County's
history during the prohibition era when liquor was illegal and the Great
Depression of the 1930's when running moonshine through the foothills
of the Northeast Georgia Mountains was a way of life.
(See Motorsport America's September 2009 feature story on the history,
Thousands
of tourist flock to the birthplace of NASCAR racing to hear about storied
legends, Junior Johnson, Raymond Parks, and Gober Sosebee. These men
loved the thrill of being chased through the mountain ridges of Northeast
Georgia.
Bring the
family and visit an old Moonshine still; listen to stories from both
"Tripper's" and Revenuer's. These skilled drivers pioneered engineering
technology coaxing the most
horsepower out of the era's automotive engine of its day.
That foundation
in engine building is alive in every aspect of motorsport racing as
we know it today. So
take a look under the hood of all the cars on display in the Dawsonville
Square - you're looking at history!
Meet many legendary
race car drivers. See Vintage Race Cars and more Authentic Moonshine-Hauling
cars than you’ll ever see gathered in one place anywhere in the US!
Stop by The
Dawsonville Pool Room: a great restaurant and mini-museum of Bill
Elliott's accomplishments, as a young man from Dawsonville, GA who climbed
the ranks of NASCAR Winston Cup Series to championship and put his hometown
on the map. Order the Bully Burger while you're at the Dawsonville
Pool Room - a great burger that is world famous!
