The top Bandolero racers from across the country will descend upon Atlanta Motor Speedway June 28, when AMS plays host to the Bandolero Nationals. The one-day event will take place on the 1/4-mile ‘Thunder Ring,” a flat racing surface located on the AMS frontstretch.
Atlanta Motor Speedway most recently hosted the Bandolero Nationals in 2009.
“We’re honored and excited to be hosting the Bandolero Nationals again at Atlanta Motor Speedway,” Atlanta Motor Speedway President and GM Ed Clark said. “We are eagerly looking forward to hosting the best Bandolero drivers from all over the country as they’ll try to tame one of the most challenging racing surfaces around.”
This year’s event will cap off three opportunities for Bandolero drivers to race at AMS within a four-day span. Atlanta Motor Speedway will host two separate rounds of Thursday Thunder for Legends and Bandolero cars on June 25 and 26.
The Bandolero Nationals will feature some of racing’s youngest rising stars, as NASCAR standouts such as David Ragan, Chase Elliott, Joey Logano and Ty Dillon raced Bandolero cars early in their racing careers.
The Bandolero Nationals typically consist of feature races for each division with the lineup set by the cumulative total of points earned during qualifying and inverted heat sessions prior to the features.
Bandolero cars serve as a starting point for many drivers to enter racing, with drivers split into two groups based on their age, the Bandits and Outlaw divisions. The bandit division is for drivers ages 8-to-11 with racers ages 12 and up competing in the Outlaw division.
