A solid field of drivers – with more on the way – have indicated they will compete in the May 3 Pro Late Model 100 at Gresham Motorsports Park on Saturday, May 3.
Georgia home state chargers Bubba Pollard (Senoia), Dalton Grindle (Flowery Branch) and Anderson Bowen (Suwanee) have filed entries for the first of four nationally televised events from the Jefferson, GA motorsports complex in 2014.
Meanwhile, out of state drivers including Alabama’s J.R. Bolden (Calera) and Hunter Robbins (Shorter), John Hunter Nemechek (Mooresville, NC), Bayley Curry (Driftwood, TX) and Davey Coble (Madison, TN) have also indicated they will be on hand for the 100 all-green-flag lap May 3 Pro Late Model classic.
“It’s going to be a lot of fun racing at Gresham this year,” said Nemechek, the son of NASCAR star Joe Nemechek. “Gresham is a high-speed track and you are never off the gas very long whether it is in a Pro or Super Late Model car. There’s going to be a lot of good racing and you are going to have to use a lot of skill to get around people.”
In addition to those listed above, several other drivers including Emilee Riley, Frederick Moore, Colt James, Spencer Davis and Rodney Benefield will have in-car cameras in their entries for the event.
“The field is shaping up nicely,” said John Close, general manager at Gresham Motorsports Park. “The ability to race on national television – along with a $4,000 to win purse that still pays $1,000 for 10th and $500 for 15th – is pretty attractive to drivers and teams. We expect a great lineup of cars and, hopefully great weather with a crowd to match, when the Pro cars take the green flag here at GMP onSaturday, May 3.”
The race will be a landmark event for the historic Gresham half-mile as it will be the first time a Pro Late Model event will be nationally telecast from the speedway. One of the most exciting pavement divisions in the country, the one-hour taped delayed program of the GMP May 3 race will be syndicated into more than 100 million households across the United States and Puerto Rico when it airs in mid-May.
Additional televised events at GMP this year include the July 12 Southern Super Series 125, the 31st-Annual World Crown 300 on August 9, and a September 13Pro Late Model 100.
“Being able to race on national television at GMP is going to be pretty cool,” Nemechek stated. “Racing on television helps me get noticed as a driver and helps my sponsors as well. It’s a great opportunity to show off what you can do. It’s a situation where you hope to have a good day and not have anything bad come your way.”
