If the name sounds like ‘wrasslin’ event – you’re right – except in this case, it’s with street legal cars, trucks and SUV’s.
Gresham Motorsports Park today announced its 2014 Summer ‘Thursday Throwdown’ Street Drag program would begin Thursday, June 12. The six-race, weekly Thursday events, will carry through July with the full GMP Street Drag series set for June, 12, June 19, June 26, July 10, July 17 and July 24.
“We opened the 2014 GMP Street Drag program with a pair of Saturday events,” said track general manager John Close. “Now that the summer is heating up and Saturday schedules are full with things like yardwork, shopping, vacations and other automotive events, the GMP Thursday Throwdown Street Drags will be a perfect way that car clubs, cruising groups, and just anybody who wants to have some fun with their vehicles to get their ‘car play’ in early.”
Gates for the GMP Thursday Throwdown Street Drag events will be open at 5:30 p.m. Driver registration is from 5:40-8 p.m. Practice runs are from 6:30-7:30 p.m. with bracket racing beginning at 8:15 p.m.
Driver and registration is $20 and includes vehicle inspection, bracket placement in up to two bracket (Grudge Bracket racing free to all entries).
Spectator admission is just $5. Pit passes are $10 (16 and under not allowed in the Pit Area.)

HR – Hot Rod
(Any Engine, Tire, Any Make, Model, Year Passenger Car – Slick Tires Permitted)
Brackets are double-elimination format with the last pair racing a best two-out-of-three, winner take all format.
Remember, the GMP Thursday Throwdown Street Drag program is primarily for street legal cars, trucks and SUV’s. As such, all cars must have a current, valid registration and drivers must be 18 years of age or older and present a valid non-expired/revoked drivers license to compete.
Drivers 16-17 are permitted as long as they have notarized minor release form signed by their parent or guardian on file. (Form available in Street Drag section of www.racegmp.com.)
All Street Drag bracket winners will receive a trophy.

The Gresham Motorsports Park Thursday Throwdown Street Drags are supported by the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department – which urges you to drag race at GMP – not on public streets and highways. The Thursday GMP Street Drag events are also an alcohol free event with no alcohol sales or carry ins allowed.
