It was a beautiful day for the first annual Captain Herb Emory Memorial Ride on Saturday, May 31.
We lost our good buddy and WSB radio personality in April of this year. It was a real shock that one day he’s on the air giving the traffic report and the next he was gone.
As you all know, the Captain wrote a column for Motorsport America, we feel his absence so sharply when we put out the May issue. It may never go away, this empty feeling. He really loved racing and enjoyed being a part of our publishing family.
The memorial ride was the first time the community had the opportunity to express their grief collectively. Over 400 motorcyclist joined together to ride through Douglasville, GA, Herb’s hometown.
A beautiful commemorative tee shirt was designed for the ride and there are plenty left over. Fred’s BBQ in Lithia Springs has them for sale for $15 for those who could not attend the ride.
The memorial ride raised $5,000 and donations are still coming in. The monies will be given in Captain Herb’s memory to the charity he loved best: Toys for Tots.
A great big thank you goes out to all those who particapated in the ride and made donations to make this a huge success.
Plans are already underway to have another ride this coming December for Toys for Tots.
