Eighteen drivers will be crowned
division champions at O’Reilly Auto Parts Friday Night Drags Championship
Night this Friday in the 18th and final week of the 2015 season. For a
handful, the title has already been locked up, but for many divisions, the
hardware is still up for grabs. Friday is drivers’ final opportunity to
race for supremacy on the pit lane drag strip before the curtain closes on
the ninth season of street-style drag racing at AMS.
The season-long battle in the Zaxby’s Street Outlaw Division between
Lamar Chambers of Griffin and Shannon Shelton of Forest Park will come to a
head Friday night. Trailing division leader Chambers by three points
entering Championship Night, Shelton will look to pull off the upset with a
win and an early exit by Chambers. Through 13 points weeks, Chambers has
six appearances in the weekly finals to Shelton’s seven.
The Truck Advanced and Street Modified divisions will also feature
down-to-the-wire championship showdowns. Will Coots of Stockbridge and
Luthersville’s Keith White are locked in a tight battle in the Truck
Advanced Division, Coots leading White by two points, while a single point
separates Sharpsburg resident David Waksman and Griffin’s Douglas Anglin
in the Street Modified Division. Waksman will attempt to halt Anglin’s
four-week winning streak with a strong performance to wrap up the season
and clinch the title.
In the Sport Compact Division, four drivers are within four points of the
lead in what may be the most hotly contested championship finale of the
evening. Amanda Prince, Bobby Bramblett, Damon Waldrop and Charles Myers
will undoubtedly lay it all on the line for the coveted trophy in the
highly competitive championship face-off.
Other close divisions to watch coming into the season finale include the
Sport Bike Division, ATV Division and the Thunder Tower West
Harley-Davidson Cruiser/Dirt Bike Division.
In the event of a tie following Friday’s final round, the champion will be
determined by virtue of most final-round victories in this season’s points
events.
The 18th and final week of the 2015 season of O’Reilly Auto Parts Friday
Night Drags and Show-N-Shine revs up this Friday night. Gates open at 6:30
p.m., prior to the Show-N-Shine competition, and racing gets underway just
after 9 p.m.
