This weekend at Wilkesboro Dragway, drama will be king! It’s championship weekend! Saturday, the gates will open at 3pm for the final points race for the 2015 racing season, and the points battles couldn’t be tighter. With only a few points separating 1st and 2nd place in all three divisions, the drivers will be pulling out all the stops to win the coveted Wilkesboro Dragway championship trophy.
In Top ET former champion, Clyde “The Glide” McKinney holds a slight 3 lead over his son Mitchel “Monster” McKinney. Jr Hodges is only 10 points back and is a threat as well with 9 other racers vieing for the rest of the top five positions.
The Modified ET division is a champions championship! Reining WD Modified ET champion Phillip Harrison is trying to go back to back, but multi track and former WD Jr. Dragster champion Hannah “Bubblegum” Blevins is only 7 points back. “It ain’t gonna be a cake walk” said Harrison when talking about Blevins,”She’s tough!, It’s gonna be interesting”. Hannah isn’t the only threat to Harrision, 4 time WD Modified ET champion Johnny Hodges has surged of late as well as Hannah’s father former WD Top ET champion, Timbo Blevins.
Street ET boils down to veteran racer Charles Pendley and current points leader, Catrina Shannon.
Shannon in only her 2nd full season of racing in her Mustang, has held the points lead most of the season, but Pendley driving “Mama’s Lincoln” has chipped her lead down to only 7 points.
As if that wasn’t enough excitement, throw in Wheeliepalooza!
The Wilkesboro Dragway fans favorite, The Classic Gear Jammers will be on hand with their high flying, wheelie popping action packed racing. And Mr. Wheelie himself, Danny O’Day and the Superwrench Wheelstander to wow the fans even more. First up though, will be Thursday night Test N Tune. You can bet a lot of the stars and cars of the WD points series will be here fine tuning their machines and for only $10 you can watch or line your car up like them and race down the track.
