Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta and the International Motor Sports Association (IMSA) announced today that through a realignment of event dates, Michelin Raceway now will host a six-hour IMSA event over Labor Day weekend, Sept. 4-6.
This additional IMSA endurance event on the Michelin Raceway calendar was originally scheduled as the Sahlen’s Six Hours of The Glen at Watkins Glen International. It was set for the same weekend at the upstate New York facility.
“On behalf of all IMSA stakeholders, we are grateful to Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta for accommodating this event weekend,” said IMSA President John Doonan. “Of course, we all wish we could have gone to Watkins Glen International as planned on Labor Day Weekend, but we look forward to returning to Watkins Glen and the Finger Lakes region again in 2021. Having two IMSA Michelin Endurance Cup races at the same facility in back-to-back months serves as the latest example of these unprecedented times.”
Michelin Raceway’s fall schedule of events already includes an IMSA Michelin Endurance Cup event – the iconic 10-hour Motul Petit Le Mans in mid-October – so this addition gives another opportunity for fans to experience IMSA competition at Michelin Raceway in 2020. The weekend will showcase the six-hour WeatherTech Championship race, as well as additional races from three feature series: the IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge with a four-hour race, and doubleheader races for both the Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge USA by Yokohama and Lamborghini Super Trofeo North America.
“While the circumstances surrounding the move of this race from Watkins Glen to our facility aren’t ideal, we’re thrilled to give our fans and partners this amazing opportunity to be a part of a historic race weekend that hasn’t been seen here before,” said Rick Humphrey, president and general manager of Michelin Raceway. “After months without public events at the track, our staff is more than ready to welcome guests back for two classic IMSA endurance races over the next three months.”
Tickets and camping packages for this event will go on sale to the public at noon on Monday, Aug. 3. Tickets can be purchased at https://tickets.roadatlanta.com.
