Zipadelli, a native of Berlin, Connecticut, joins the Mooresville, N.C.-based team after a 13-year tenure at Stewart-Haas Racing, where he served as Director of Competition.
Before that, he gained notoriety as the crew chief of the No. 20 car for Joe Gibbs Racing drivers Tony Stewart and Joey Logano from 1999 to 2011. During that span, he secured 34 victories and two NASCAR Cup Series championships.
In his new role with RJR, Zipadelli will oversee business strategy, company initiatives and overall team development.
He will work closely with team co-owners Mark Rette and Terry Jones to strengthen the organization’s presence in ARCA and other motorsports divisions, focusing on bolstering partnerships and fostering long-term growth.
“I am excited about this next chapter of my motorsports career,” said Zipadelli. “I’ve known Mark (Rette) a long time, and over the last year, I’ve gotten to know Terry (Jones). This opportunity allows me to apply my years of experience in NASCAR and apply them in new ways, helping strengthen the team’s infrastructure, refine race operations, and develop a long-term strategy for success.
“I look forward to working with the entire organization, our partners, and the talented drivers coming through the program as we continue to grow and compete at a high level.”
Zipadelli’s addition is expected to bring a wealth of knowledge and leadership to the team. His extensive background in team management, race strategy, and competition operations will be instrumental in enhancing RJR’s business relationships on and off the track.
“I’m excited to add Greg to the team,” said RJR co-owner Mark Rette. “We’ve set new long-term goals for our organization, and Greg’s experience is a key element in making those goals a reality.”
RJR co-owner Terry Jones echoed that sentiment.
“People are everything in this industry, and Greg is a great addition to our organization,” Jones added. “He will be instrumental in facilitating the great projects we have now and shaping our future.”
Rette Jones Racing will field two cars in Saturday afternoon’s ARCA Menards Series opener at Daytona (Fla.) International Speedway, with Kyle Steckly driving the No. 29 Ford Fusion and Garrett Mitchell (Cleetus McFarland) piloting the No. 30 Ford Mustang.
