Mason Massey was just 15 years old when he beat a star-studded field of Late Model competitors to take the win in the 48th  Annual Alabama 200 at Montgomery Motor Speedway last year.

That made him the youngest driver to win the race in its’ present 200-lap format.  One year later, the now 16-year-old from Douglasville, Georgia rolls into the track with the rest of the Southern Super Series field bring with him a strong sense of confidence and the memories of last year’s triumph.

“That was an amazing weekend,” Mason said earlier this week. “We had a good car all day long.  We led over 100 laps. When we were able to get the win it was awesome because it was just my second win in a Late Model and it’s such a big race!”

Mason has a new team and a new crew chief (Josh Hamner) this season but he says he has no less confidence than he had coming in last year.  “Josh takes really good care of me and he works hard to give me competitive cars every time out.  We’re still learning each other but we’re getting better each time out. We finished 13th at the World Crown 300 a couple of weeks ago at Gresham Motorsports Park but a lot of that had to do with us having to finish the race on old tires because the last 128 laps went caution-free so we couldn’t pit or we’d have lost laps.  I believe we have what it takes to contend for the win at Montgomery and that’s the goal.  We want to do it as a team.”

The weekend gets underway Friday with practice.  Race day is Saturday.  For more information about the race including start times and ticket prices, visit www.MontgomerySpeedway.com.
