Massey’s Third Victory Slips Away in Overtime Restart
Mason Massey finished sixth in the Kyle Busch Classic at The Bullring at
Las Vegas Motor Speedway after a late race shot at the win slipped away
in the closing laps of the 151-lap event. Massey started from the sixth
position and entered the race 40 points behind the championship lead.
Massey continued forward to fourth on lap 21 before settling into fifth
ahead of the lap 34 caution.

The Douglasville, Ga. native took advantage of the restart on lap 49 and
settled into fourth on lap 60. The No. 19 NAPA Auto Care Chevrolet SS
remained inside the top five despite Massey’s car building loose
throughout the long run. After the lap-69 caution, he restarted fifth
and made the pass for fourth on lap 82. Massey briefly dropped to sixth
after getting loose in turns one and two on lap 101 and getting caught
three wide, but he worked his way back to fifth by lap 107 and
immediately opened a gap on the car behind him.
Massey was fifth for the lap 119 caution and moved to third by lap 133
after the restart. He stayed in the third position through the lap-149
caution. Starting inside the second row for overtime, Massey got a good
jump on the restart and looked to the inside for the lead on the lap 156
restart and made a move to the bottom on the final lap. Tight, physical
racing resulted in a three wide tangle in Turn 3 collecting the No. 19
NAPA Auto Care Chevrolet SS for the lap 158 caution. Massey restarted
ninth for the final restart on lap 166 and brought home a sixth place
finish.
Mason Massey Quote:
“Tonight was another night I feel like we deserved more. We didn’t have
the fastest car on track, but we did a good job managing track position
on the restarts and put ourselves in the right position at the end of
the race. I’m proud of this NAPA Auto Care team and super grateful to be
in the mix fighting for another win. Onto Phoenix.”
